How do you publish a post? Where is the "publish" button? Right now I can only post from my phone :(. Please don't laugh at me if I missed something really obvious.

I saw this at C+C New Caanan!

When making a new post on non-mobile version, you'll have the option to save the post as private or public. It's a small, orange button on the bottom right corner of the editor window, with a small arrow in its right corner.
There it is, save as public is the same as publishing.

See the little orange box that says "Save as private"? use the drop arrow to select "Save as public" then click it. Also, to the left of it, you can select where you want to post.

That's where I took the picture :)

In the lower-right corner of the editor window you have the option to "save as private" or "save as public". That is the publish button.

Wait, so I just select save as public and it automatically publishes?

not too many Messerschmitts out there running around

Not quite - you click the drop-down arrow to select "public" (blue) and then click on "save as public". It won't save until you click again.

I tried that just now, but it still doesn't show up (at least not for me).

I tried to do that but it still won't post.

Are you logged in on your computer? Where are you posting from now? Do you have any error messages? Sometimes Kinja is finicky and you'll have to wait a bit.

I can only post from my phone, but I can comment from my computer.

Your compose window should look like this:
you should see the options to publish on oppositelock and the "save as" window on the right. Does your page look like this?

It does, I will try one more time.

hey I remember this thing

So I noticed that the little "flame" icon on my post has the number 9 next to it. Doesn't it show how many people viewed the post or something because if it does that means I already published it, but I just don't see it. Weird.

Just test it to see if it works - no sense in repasting all your content. Get the post ready and just click the portion of the button that reads "save as private" and see what happens. The page should re-load to your post. If this works you can get your actual post (with content) ready and then 1) click the down-arrow next to "Save as private", 2) select "save as public", 3) click on the words "save as public" and it should work.
If it doesn't work clear your cookies and cache and try it again (after logging back in)

The flame is page views you are correct. What post is it?
edit: was it your secret senna post?

Yes, so it did work.

Please don't tell me that I posted it like ten times.

Ah yeah that worked - it looks like you posted around 12:26am EST this morning.

No you're fine - I guess you were editing the post, which means it would update any content changes but kept the post at the initial time.

Actually I posted it about 20 minutes ago.

Then the time stamp is fucked up. Go back to your post and click the gear icon at the top-right (next to the Twitter icon). Then look for the clock icon near the "add tags..." text and type in the current time. It will repost now. Alternatively I can do it for you.

I'm gonna try to do it myself.
Thanks so much!

Looks like it worked.

It's confusing. But no worries as the next release of Kinja will be something completely different, twice as inscrutable, and ten times less intuitive...

inscrutable
I love that word.
